A relic of the Ice Age, graellsia isabellae is a silk moth species that has remained relatively unchanged since ancient times. Protected in the refuge of its high mountain habitat, it feeds on pine trees as a caterpillar. After emerging from its cocoon, it lives and mates for only 7-10 days as an adult.
